Job Summary:

Sumaria Systems, Inc. is hiring for a Telecommunications Switch Technician for the Communications Support Services at the United States Air Force Academy. The mission of the 10th Communications Squadron is to provide The United States Air Force Academy with communication and information technology services to prepare the next generation of Air Force leaders.

Responsibilities include:

The Telecommunications Switch Technician provides telecommunication maintenance, installation, and repair services to the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). This position interacts with users to repair, replace, program, and maintain all switches, peripherals, software, hardware configurations, and communication equipment to ensure proper system security and operation. The switch technician duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides maintenance and repair to the MSL-100 telephone switch
  • Provisions/Troubleshoots Digital, POTS, ISDN, T1 circuits
  • Provides switch-related backups, traffic studies, and telephone switch metric data upon request
  • Provides daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance inspection report
  • Develops technical recommendations for modification or replacement of telecommunications equipment and systems
  • Solves complex problems by troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and removing/replacing telecommunications equipment and systems
  • Coordinate with upper level support as needed, (ETAS, DISA, Tech Control)
  • Provides 24 hour on-call support when assigned
  • Provides maintenance and repair to the Optera Transport System
  • Provides maintenance and repair to the Call Pilot Voicemail System
  • Provides technical guidance to lower level technicians

Telecommunications Switch Technicians install equipment used to operate a variety of equipment and devices associated with telephone switching. These technicians usually need to install, maintain and repair equipment without interfering with the activities of customers. They are also responsible for upgrading equipment. They must also test equipment to ensure that the equipment functions properly. Daily logs are prepared to report to management. The switch technician must also keep track of the inventory equipment and report when equipment needs to be stocked.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications & Clearance:  

  • 5+ years’ experience on the Nortel MSL-100 Telephone Switch 
  • Nortel Optera Transport System
  • Nortel Call Pilot Voicemail System
  • Telephone Management System (TMS)
  • Outside/Inside plant cabling and methods    
  • Facility locate experience
  • Fiber optic cabling and methods
  • MSL-100 Certificate of Training or equal
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Security Clearance
